If you’re the smartest person in the room…

If you’re the smartest person in the room, find a different room.

It’s something my mom used to say to me growing up. A lot. Smart lady, eh?

Surround yourself with people that are better than you are and you will grow. An advantage of social networks -Twitter in particular- is that your ‘room’ can be as small or big as you want to make it. Our networking efforts are not constrained by physical location- as they might be with an in-person event.  You can learn from the sharpest minds in the world on any topic you seek out, from your keyboard.

There are people I draw influence from on Twitter, on a daily basis. Some of them are supernovas in the Twitter-verse, giant and visible. Some are lesser known constellations, masterpieces that only people in the marketing industry may recognize. And some are local, single stars, burning bright to show us the way.

Here’s the ‘room’ I’m in…come on in, mingle!

1. Winnie Sun

Participate in her TweetChats using hashtag #WinnieSun every Wednesday 11 am PST/ 2pm EST

2. Carlos Gil

Listen to his keynote at the 54th Annual American Marketing Association Conference.

3. Madalyn Sklar

Join her for her #TwitterSmarter Twitter chat, which occurs ever week at 10am PST/1pm EST

4. Gary Vaynerchuck

Also, take a look at The #ASKGARYVEE Show. You won’t be sorry.

5. Matthew Capala

You should also read his book: SEO Like I’m 5 or take his course on Udemy.

6. Adele Revella

Read her book Buyer Personas or take a master class with her!

Know someone that I can learn from that’s not on this list? I’m all ears!
